Walking and Hiking
There are thousands of kilometers of well maintained and chevron marked trails suitable for walking and hiking. The walking and hiking trails take you through our glorious countryside. The walks take you through one of the largest forests in Europe where you can see a profusion of wild life and fauna from the various types of deer, sanglier (wild boar), the heavily protected European brown bear and the wolf. The fields are full of wild flowers, orchids and butterflies that have never been tainted by artificial fertilizers.
Do not be alarmed at the thought of coming face to face with a ‘Bear’ or ‘Wolf’ during your stay. The Bear and Wolves are less fearsome that they are often portrayed and as a rule they remain hidden and avoid contact with humans wherever possible. If you did come across them, they would almost certainly run away.
It is possible to walk using some of the Route de Paye Cathar trails from Quillan to Barcelona. Walking in the Pyrenees, especially with the Cathar castles as focal points, is a very spiritual experience. You can head off into the mist of history on a one-way journey and always rely on us to pick you up at the end of the day.
The extensive ‘Accommodation’ , ‘Swimming Pool and Gardens’ and ‘Leisure Facilities’ at Mouli D’al Roc enable us to cater for individual or groups of walkers passing through the region, or using the Moulin as base for a walking holiday.
Associations such as ‘Haute Vallee Randonnee Club Pedestre (HVR)’ provide details on organized local walks ranging in difficulty from 3 to 8 hours and elevation changes from 300 to 1000 meters. The walks are provided with the support of local guides. The HVR website has lots of information and photographs on previous and forthcoming walks.
